The owner of a compact and elegant Battersea apartment, decorated in pale aquamarine tones, wanted her favourite artwork to take centre stage in the room, while still being able to enjoy occasional television viewing and entertain guests around a dining table. The challenge was that the room offered only 2.5 metres of available wall space.
As this project brought together design, functionality and technical problem-solving, we embraced it with enthusiasm.
The concept was built around a Picture Lift mechanism, which raises the artwork to reveal a recessed flat-screen television behind it. We designed a wall unit with enough depth to incorporate a full-size folding dining table in solid oak. A system of pulleys and counterweights allows the table to be set up with surprising ease.
